Mountain House Adventure Meals™ are full-size meal pouches that are perfect for outdoor adventures. Adventure Meals™  are lightweight and portable, with homestyle meals that are packed with nutrients and full flavors for a satisfying hot meal anytime, anywhere.

We've reformulated and repackaged our 2020 Pro-Pak® line to align with military specifications for Meals, Cold Weather (MCW). Our new Pro-Paks contain one serving, have higher protein, and focused calories than our Standard Adventure Meal™ Pouches. These Pro-Paks can be identified by a red Pro-Pak® badge on the front of the pouch.

Previous to this, the difference between our Pro-Paks and Standard Adventure Meal™ Pouches were that Pro-Paks generally held slightly less food, but this varied from recipe to recipe. These older Pro-Paks were also vacuum packed to prevent expansion at high altitude and to be as compact as possible.

Just add water, seal, and devour in less than 10 minutes. We’ve put together a quick infographic showing you how to make Mountain House Adventure Meals™.

Store Mountain House food under dry, sanitary conditions, without prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures and avoiding any environment that could cause damage to the packaging, such as punctures, dents, or rust.

To maximize shelf life, store food unopened and avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 75°F (24°C). Follow these storage tips and you'll have tasty food on your next backpacking trip.

After opening, we recommend using any dry contents within one week for best results and taste. After hydration, treat any leftover food as you would fresh food. It's real food!

Our meals in our Adventure Meal™ pouches, and buckets all have a freeze-dried, industry-leading guaranteed shelf life and Taste Guarantee of 30 years from the date of manufacture. The only exceptions are our ice cream which has a 3-year shelf life.

The food doesn’t “go bad” after the shelf life, but the quality will start to diminish. You may notice a slight change in flavor or texture, but we've eaten food from both our Adventure Meal™ pouches that were over 30 years old and were still tasty!

Great question! We have updated the shelf life on our foods several times over the years because we found the 'Best Used By' printed on our pouches was too conservative. This is why, based on real-world testing, we've moved to a 30-year shelf life on meals in our pouches (excluding novelty items and MCWs). To learn more about our shelf life here.

To determine the new shelf life of your old Mountain House pouches, you'll need to locate the actual manufacturing date. Add 30 years to the manufactured date to get the new shelf life.

We know of no other pouch on the market with Mountain House's 30-year proven shelf life. It's important to note that we use a strict definition of "shelf life", namely that our food will still taste good, even at the end of its stated shelf life! We're so confident that Mountain House pouches will stand the test of time that we've instituted the industry's only 30-year Taste Guarantee.

All that is needed is cold water. However, you could use any milk variety, or kefir, kombucha, coconut water, or other liquids.

Mountain House Smoothies have been formulated to provide the right mix of healthy protein, carbs, electrolytes, vitamins, and macronutrients that support the muscles and gut in reducing stress and inflammation. That means faster recovery from physical exertion, and fuel to keep going strong.

There are 5 strains of healthy probiotics: Bifidus, S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus, and L. Casei. Health benefits of strains from established studies include:

• L. bifidus – boost immune system, improve digestion

• S. thermophilus – enhance immunity, improve digestion

• L. bulgaricus – recovery from antibiotic therapy, role in managing hay fever (alleric rhinitis).

• L. acidophilus – prevent or reduce gut issues due to stress, improve symptoms of IBS

• L. casei – restore gut health due to stress

The primary protein source is from the Greek yogurt. Other protein comes from the fruits and vegetables, such as banana, kale, flax, beets, and tart cherry. The fruits and vegetables are the primary source of carbohydrates, with the Greek yogurt contributing as well.

There is no added whey protein, however, the milk protein in the Greek Yogurt contains a whey protein that is naturally occurring in milk.

Our smoothies are made with whole food ingredients, which naturally contain many different healthy enzymes. For example, we use 100% pure coconut water, which contains catalase and other enzymes. We also use 100% banana puree, which contains maltase and amylase. Other ingredients, like ginger and yogurt, also contain enzymes.

Not yet. It’s our desire to offer a lactose-free smoothie that offers a similar nutritional profile.

NSF is a certification that is focused on supplements, not food items, which is what our Smoothies are. As a food manufacturer, we seek and achieve other certifications that demonstrate our commitment to rigorous standards that prevent cross contamination and ensure the highest quality. Our manufacturing facilities are certified SQF, an industry benchmark for quality and food safety. Learn more at https://www.SQFI.com.
